Landing Features
You should pay attention to the features of growing the "King of the Giants."
Seed preparation
The germination of a tomato depends on the stage of seed preparation.
You need to use the following rules:
- Buying seeds. Do this only in specialized stores, so you can avoid fakes. You can also harvest the seeds yourself. In this case, they are stored no more than 3 years.
- Sorting. Sort seeds, remove empty and small ones.
- Protection. To protect the seeds from pests, wrap them in gauze and dip them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 10 minutes.
- Harvesting. Spread the seeds on paper or a cloth soaked in warm water, wrap in a transparent film and put it in a warm place. Provide a temperature of 22-25 degrees.
As the sprouts begin to appear, the seeds can be planted. This usually happens on the 3rd day.
Soil preparation
Soil can also be purchased at the store, but it is better to prepare the mixture yourself. This does not take much time and allows you to be sure of the quality of the material used.
The mixture should include:
- Humus. It is better to take the one that turned out when pork or horse manure was overheated.
- Compost. It is obtained from plant debris. But you should not add solanaceous.
- Earth. To be taken near deciduous trees.
- Sand. An ideal option would be a river, but without clay admixtures.
Mix the first 3 ingredients in equal proportions. Then add the sand from the calculation - 1 kg per 1 bucket of the mixture. For every 10 kg of soil, add 2 tbsp. l furnace ash, nitrate and superphosphate.
The mixture should be infused for 2-3 days and only after that it can be used.
Such a soil allows you to protect plants from pests, provides sufficient breathability and saturation with nutrients.
Growing seedlings
Growing seedlings is as follows:
- Container selection. Take from wood or plastic. It should be shallow - about 10 cm.
- Training. Place pebbles at the bottom of the container. Pour the soil from above. Then tighten it well.
- Planting seeds. Spread in holes 1 cm deep at a distance of 2-3 cm. Top with a small layer of soil and slightly compact.

- Temperature. Reduce it to 18 degrees, at night it should be 4 degrees lower.
- Watering. Produce as the topsoil dries.
- Airing. Remove film for at least 30 minutes per day to ensure optimal moisture levels.
- Illumination. Place the container with plants in a well-lit place, but at the same time provide protection from direct sunlight. It is good to use lamps for seedlings.
Pick
At this stage, plants are transplanted into separate containers. You need to do this when the tomatoes appear on 2-3 leaves.
Such events are held:
- Extraction. Carefully remove the sprouts from the container so as not to damage the roots. From below completely clear of soil.
- Pick It is made manually. Tear off the bottom piece of the root rod by about 1/3. This will provide better absorption of nutrients.
- Transfer. Fill separate containers with soil 1/3. Next, place the plant there, sprinkle with earth to the level of cotyledon leaves. Water it.
Landing should be carried out on the 55th day after seed preparation.
Bedding
Since the fall, you need to prepare the soil for planting. For this, dig beds, make the necessary fertilizers in the ground.
There are 2 ways to land:
- To the greenhouse. In this case, you need to constantly take care of maintaining the optimum temperature, humidity, lighting. 3 days before planting, the land is treated with a solution of copper sulfate and watered abundantly. Plants are planted with a calculation - 2-3 bushes per 1 square. m
- In the open ground. Landing is carried out closer to the end of May. Tomato ripens well in sunny weather, when there is no risk of frost. When planting, you need to take care of deepening the shoots in the ground for the growth of the root system. Planting pattern is the same as under greenhouse conditions.
Immediately after transplanting, the earth needs to be well loosened.
Care
Proper care is the key to obtaining a good tomato crop.
Bush formation
It is necessary to form a bush manually. For this:
- Establish support. Without this, the plant may break under the weight of the fruit. Therefore, tie it not only after planting, but also in the process of growth.
- Stepsoning. Stepsons constantly cut off. Do this only in dry weather. Handle the breakdown site with ash.
- Topping. Pinch off the top of the plant when it reaches 1.5 m. This is necessary so that most of the nutrients are directed to fruiting.
Top dressing
Seedlings are fertilized several times after transplanting into the ground:
- 3rd week. Add ammonium nitrate at a rate of 30 g per 10 l of water.
- 6th week. Mix 1 kg of manure with 10 liters of water.
- 8th week. Dissolve 30 g of superphosphate in 1 bucket of water (it is possible in a watering can).
Under each bush, add 500 ml of fertilizing.
It is better not to use fertilizers during the flowering and fruiting period, otherwise it may negatively affect the taste of tomatoes.
